Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about summer camp programs and activities.

What are regular camp hours?
Our camp runs from 9 am – 4 pm, however we provide before and after “Extended Care” hours if necessary.

How do before and after Extended Care hours work? Extended Care hours should be arranged and payment must be paid in full no later than 1 week prior to the start of the requested camp week. Please email if you need to schedule Extended Care hours. You are encouraged to add these times and payment to your completed registration form, however, we understand that circumstances may not be known until closer to the camp dates. Charges will be applied for hours specified below unless 24 hours advanced notice is provided for cancellation.
Camp Hours are 9am to 4pm, the Extended Care can be purchased for $25 per week

What are the age groups that can participate?
We accept children ages 6 to 13 to participate in our camp programs. Children ages 13-15 can apply to participate in our Counsellor in Training program to develop skills in leadership, effective communication and teamwork.

What does my son/daughter need to bring to camp for the week?
Here is list of suggested items that all campers should have every day;

  • Sunscreen and a hat
  • Towel and bathing suit
  • Water shoes, crocs or sandals to wear on the water
  • Dry shoes for land games
  • Shorts and a t-shirt for on the water
  • Additional weather appropriate clothing for off the water
  • Water bottle, snacks, and lunch in a proper lunch bag
  • Rain gear (not umbrellas)

Please ensure that all personal belongings that are brought to camp are labelled with your child’s name!!!

What happens in the event of inclement weather?
In the case of inclement weather, we are able to utilize our new camp building and our counsellors are prepared with rain day plans to ensure that the day still runs smoothly. Rain day planning includes some active games (weather permitting), movies, quiet games and arts and crafts. We abide by the rule of not going on the water for 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder to encourage water safety.

How much time do they kids spend on the water?
Our campers go through station rotations including on water activities, active games and arts and crafts. During a typical day, campers will have one rotation of on water activities in the morning and one in the afternoon. This ensures that all campers have the appropriate time to develop their canoeing and kayaking skills!

How safe are the kids while they are on the water?
All of our counsellors are required to have met our training requirements in Canoe Kids, Standard First Aid and CPR. Many of our staff have their lifeguard certifications and we are located on a beach with City of Toronto lifeguards. While the campers are on the water with their group, a minimum of two counsellors are assigned to supervise the kids. Water safety is our number one priority at camp!

How do I register?
Please download the forms from the “Camp Forms” page, we do not accept digital submissions at this time, then choose one of these options:

  • Deliver the forms and cheque to the ‘West Rouge Community Center’ and place them in the Pickering Rouge Canoe Club’s mail box.
  • Mail your forms and cheque to our Post office box; Pickering Rouge Canoe Club, 91 Rylander Blvd, Unit 7, Box 187, Scarborough, Ontario, M1B 5M5

How do I calculate the sibling discount?
Sibling discount is applied ONE time to your total cost when you have two or more children attending camp. To receive the discount you must use a code provided by us during the registration process email to obtain the code.  To qualify the children must be siblings. Our discounts are as follows: 2 siblings -$20 discount, 3 siblings -$30, for more than three siblings please email us and ask for rates.
IMPORTANT: This discount is NOT applied to each child’s camp fees, and it cannot be used between friends attending the same week.

What payment types do you accept?
We currently only credit cards for registrations with our programs.

My child has dietary restrictions, do you have halal or vegetarian hot dog wiener options at the Friday lunch BBQ?
Please make note of these dietary restrictions on the front page of the registration form or email if you’ve already registered.
